The official currency of Norway is the Norwegian krone (NOK), but several attractions, local buses, the Tourist Information Office and taxi companies accept some foreign currencies. However, they may charge a fee, offer a poorer exchange rate or only give change in NOK.
There is now virtually only one place in Tromsø to exchange foreign currency and that is the Chief Post office. You may exchange the following currencies:
US Dollars (USD)
GB Pounds (GBP)
Danish Kroner (DKK)
Swedish Kroner (SEK) - NB: SEK 20 and SEK 50 bills are not accepted.
Swiss franc (CHF)
The Post Office charges an exchange fee of NOK 75 (as of 2015).
The Tromsø Tourist information Office can exchange small amounts (maximum NOK 1000) free of charge, but offers a less favourable exchange rate.

There are currently no money exchange agencies such as Forex or Western Union in Tromsø, so we recommend that you exchange currency at Oslo airport on arrival in Norway.
ATM machines are widely available in downtown Tromsø and at Tromsø airport. Please note that owing to bank fees it may be cheaper to use your credit card instead of exchanging money.
Major credit and debit cards, such as Visa, MasterCard, American Express and Diners, are widely accepted throughout Norway.
