If you wish to travel southwards from Tromsø, you can either go by bus, plane or onboard Hurtigruten.
Bus from Tromsø to Narvik
There are direct bus connections from Tromsø to Narvik every day. There are scheduled departures on Monday to Friday at 06:10 (6.10am), 10:30 (10am) and 16:00 (4pm), Saturday at 10:30 (10am) and 16:00 (4pm) and Sunday at 10:30 (10am), 16:00 (4pm) and 19:20 (7.20pm).
The travel time is 4.5 hours and the fare is approximately NOK 400.
Tickets may be purchased on the bus and it is possible to pay by credit card for regional buses.
Bus from Tromsø to Bodø
There is one daily bus connection from Tromsø to Bodø via Narvik.
This bus leaves from Tromsø at 10:30 (10am) and Narvik at 16:10 (4.10pm) before arriving in Bodø at 22:30 (10.30pm).
The fare is approximately NOK 500 and tickets may be purchased on the bus. It is possible to pay by credit card.
Bus/train connections to Trondheim, Oslo and Bergen
There is one daily bus connection from Tromsø to Fauske. You can continue south from here by train to Trondheim, Oslo, Bergen and other destinations.
The bus departs from Tromsø at 10:30 (10am) and arrives in Fauske at 21:10 (9.10pm) via Narvik.
At Fauske the bus usually corresponds with the night train to Trondheim (approx. 9 hours), Oslo (approx. 17 hours) and Bergen (approx 25 hours). For more information about trains in Norway, please visit: www.nsb.no
Hurtigruten (The Norwegian Coastal Voyage)
The Hurtigruten departs Tromsø at 01:30 (1.30am). This is a really nice way to travel to the Lofoten Islands. The journey takes 17 hours and you arrive in Svolvær at 18:30 (6.30pm) on the same day.
The voyage between Tromsø and the Lofoten Islands includes some of the best scenery on the entire Hurtigruten voyage.
It is possible to travel from Tromsø all the way to Bergen.
