Midday Winter Sea Kayaking from Tromsø

This tour is operated by Sommarøy Adventure.

We start the day with a short bus ride to our base camp, where you will meet your guide and prepare for the adventure ahead. Inside our heated gamme, a dome-shaped tent originally used by the Sámi people, you will receive all the equipment you need for your kayaking trip, along with clear instructions on how to dress properly to stay warm and safe on the Arctic water.

Once you are suited up, you will walk down to the shoreline and get settled into your kayak. Before heading out, your guide will give you easy-to-follow paddling instructions and a thorough safety briefing. In winter, you will usually paddle in stable double kayaks, but single kayaks are available on request if you can show sufficient kayaking experience.

During the winter season, you will often explore beautiful areas such as Kaldfjorden and Eidkjosen. Depending on the weather and sea conditions, your route may take you through sheltered channels, between small islands and across peaceful archipelagos. Wildlife is active all year, so as you glide over the calm Arctic waters, you can keep an eye out for sea eagles, otters, seals and flocks of seabirds.

After the tour, you will return to base camp to warm up by the fire with hot drinks and snacks while sharing stories and highlights from your unforgettable Arctic day, before heading back by bus to Tromsø city centre.

Important information:

• The minimum age to participate in this tour is 14 years.
• This tour is not wheelchair accessible.
• Pets are not allowed.
• No previous kayaking experience is required.
• All tours are guided by certified local instructors and adapted to ensure safety and comfort.
• Please make sure you arrive well dressed, with several warm layers to wear underneath the dry suit.
• Please inform our guides of any medical conditions that may be relevant for the tour.
• This tour is weather-dependent and may be changed or cancelled for safety reasons. A full refund will be offered if the tour is cancelled.
• Our guides and staff reserve the right to refuse participation if a participant’s condition or behaviour poses a risk to the health, safety or comfort of others. This includes, but is not limited to, intoxication, being under the influence or unsafe behaviour.

Included: Bus transport from and back to Tromsø city centre, certified local guide with experience kayaking in Arctic conditions, hot drinks and biscuits, kayak and paddle, buoyancy aid, warm gloves and boots, and dry suit
Please bring: Warm base layers to wear underneath the dry suit, an extra jumper or thin down jacket, warm hat and socks, gloves to wear by the fire, water bottle and some light food/snacks
