Autumn is the season of contrasts

The landscape is transformed by rich shades of red, yellow and orange. From late August, there is also a chance to see the northern lights dancing across the night sky.

Autumn is an ideal season for hiking. The crisp Arctic air and the scent of heather and birch forest make time outdoors especially refreshing.

This is also harvest season, when locally grown vegetables, mushrooms and Arctic berries find their way onto the menu. The long days under the midnight sun give vegetables and berries time to develop their distinctive flavours. You can even pick some of nature’s seasonal produce yourself.

Together, the changing landscape, seasonal food and local traditions make autumn in Tromsø a colourful and atmospheric time of year.
