Urban experiences meets raw Arctic nature
NATO Exercise Cold Response 9–19 March: Be extra alert in traffic
Are you visiting the Tromsø region between 9–19 March? Please take a moment to read this important traffic information from the Norwegian Public Roads Administration.
There will be considerable military traffic from Narvik to inland Troms and within inland Troms from 2 March. After the exercise is over, personnel and vehicles will be returning, which means that there will be a large number of military vehicles on the roads then too. There will be delays and queues on the roads.
This is what you should do:
- Expect delays and make sure you have enough time
- Be extra alert
- Keep a good distance – military vehicles are large and heavy
- Be extra cautious both when overtaking and when facing oncoming military vehicles
- Make sure you are seen – large vehicles have large blind spots
- If you walk or cycle, pay extra attention
- Wear reflectors or reflective garments if you are out in the dark
- Follow both civilian and military signage – exercise areas will be specially signposted
Military convoys:
Military convoys are marked with a blue flag / blue light on the front vehicle, and a green flag / green light on the rear vehicle, and with signs reading “MILITÆR KOLONNE” both at the front and at the rear of the convoy.
- Do not overtake, this is only allowed on a four-lane road
- Do not cut into the convoy
- Keep a good distance
- Be patient
- Follow directions
- Be extra alert
