Join an 11-day dog sledding journey through Øvre Dividal National Park.
General information
This tour is operated by Ursa Minor Adventures.
The goal of this expedition-style tour is to cross Øvre Dividal National Park by dog sled. The national park is a spectacular mountain region with wide valleys covered by ancient birch and pine forests. Here, you will experience one of the most untouched areas of Inner Troms and Northern Norway.
The programme starts at Bardu Husky Lodge, where you will spend a full day learning about dog sledding and safety. Each participant drives their own dog team of 6–8 Alaskan Huskies and takes an active part in the daily tasks.
The dog sledding journey begins on the frozen lake Altevatnet. From here, you will travel northeast across the ice and onwards through largely untouched wilderness.
During winter, you may see tracks left by moose, reindeer, wolverines and lynx.
The remote location and changing snow and weather conditions require flexibility and good physical fitness. Some steep climbs can be demanding, but your efforts will be rewarded with impressive views.
The route is adapted to the current weather, snow and trail conditions, allowing the group to travel safely through the varied and sometimes challenging terrain.
You will mainly stay in cabins along the route, but the plan also includes at least one night in a heated expedition tent beneath the night sky. Depending on the conditions, there may also be a possibility of seeing the Northern Lights. Your guide will provide the necessary instructions and help you with the routines involved in winter camping.
