Spend 24 hours at sea on an overnight Arctic cruise combining a Northern Lights search with whale watching. This option includes a private ocean-view twin cabin for single occupancy.

General information

This experience is operated by Destination Tromsø.

Day 1: An evening beneath the Arctic sky

Sail from Tromsø into the Arctic evening, away from the city lights and beneath the open night sky.

Your journey begins in the heart of Tromsø, where you will be welcomed on board MV Quest. Settle into your private ocean-view twin cabin and meet the expedition team who will accompany you throughout the cruise.

As the vessel leaves the harbour, the lights of Tromsø gradually fade into the distance. On board, the atmosphere is warm and relaxed. A three-course dinner is served, and the Panorama Lounge offers a comfortable place to unwind as darkness settles outside.

Your guide will introduce you to the stories and science behind the Northern Lights, preparing you for what may appear in the sky above.

You can then step outside and watch for the Northern Lights from the open deck, surrounded by the stillness of the Arctic night. If the aurora appears while you are asleep, the crew will wake you so that you do not miss it.

Day 2: Whale watching in an Arctic fjord

Wake up in a quiet Arctic fjord before most daytime whale-watching tours arrive.

The morning begins in a remote fjord where whales gather during the winter feeding season. You can look for wildlife from the breakfast table, your cabin window or one of the vessel’s open decks.

With a little luck, you may see orcas or humpback whales up close. Spending the night at sea gives you more time to observe the wildlife and enjoy views of the surrounding fjords from the vessel’s different viewing areas.

After a morning of whale watching, lunch is served on board. Your guide will also share information about the whales and dolphins found in the region.

Throughout the cruise, the expedition team will take photographs of the journey. The photographs will be shared digitally within 48 hours of the cruise.

As MV Quest returns to Tromsø, you will have time to relax, share the highlights of the trip and enjoy the final views before stepping ashore.
