General information
This tour is operated by Ursa Minor Adventures.
Experience the Polar Night in Indre Troms on an 8-day dog sledding tour through a remote Arctic winter landscape.
The tour takes place in December and January and is designed to give you a close-up experience of the Polar Night and the unique atmosphere of this time of year.
Each participant drives their own team of 6–8 Alaskan Huskies and takes part in the daily tasks along the way. The tour is also suitable for beginners, but has an expedition-style character and is designed for those who truly want to experience dog sledding off the beaten track.
The programme begins at Bardu Husky Lodge, where you will spend a full day receiving a thorough introduction to dog sledding and safety.
The dog sledding tour takes place in the mountain areas between Rohkunborri and Øvre Dividal National Park in Indre Troms. There is no fixed route, allowing the itinerary to be adapted to the snow and weather conditions as well as the participants during the tour.
The area is far from city lights. Although the sun does not rise above the horizon around the turn of the year, there are still three to four hours of daylight. This gives you time to complete the day’s stage before the Arctic night settles over the landscape.
On clear evenings, there are good opportunities to see the stars and the Northern Lights. The Northern Lights are a natural phenomenon and cannot be guaranteed.
At this time of year, there are often few other people in the area. The guides and dogs may therefore need to make their own tracks, sometimes through deep snow. The route is adapted to the weather and snow conditions along the way.
The tour takes you through open winter landscapes and Arctic birch forest, with planned overnight stays in wilderness cabins and a permanent lavvu along the route.
