Experience the Arctic – an exciting snowmobile adventure through the spectacular Arctic wilderness of Skibotn Valley.

General information

After a thorough but easy introduction on how to handle the snowmobile, we set off into the snowy landscape, two people per snowmobile, switching drivers along the way so both can enjoy the full experience.

We ride through snow-covered forests before emerging onto wide open plains surrounded by towering mountains. Along the route, breathtaking views unfold in every direction, including dramatic peaks rising above the winter landscape.

This tour is about more than just driving – it’s about sharing fun moments, feeling the crisp Arctic air and experiencing nature up close. We make several scenic stops so you can take beautiful photos while our guide helps you find the perfect viewpoints.

Good to know:

- You must bring a valid driving licence if you wish to drive the snowmobile. Any valid driving licence is accepted. Guests without a driving licence may join the tour as passengers.

- During December and early January it will be dark or partially dark during the trip, with a good chance of seeing the northern lights.

- Two guests share each snowmobile and switch drivers during the excursion.

Please bring: Valid driving licence. Dress warmly – wool is best as a base layer. Bring extra wool socks, a neck warmer and goggles/sunglasses

Departure time and place: 12 PM (12:00) from Scandic Ishavshotel, Tromso
Duration: 7.5 hours (3.5 hours of activities including preparations, instructions, approximately 60 minutes of snowmobiling, snacks and relaxing at the camp, plus return transfers from Tromso of approximately 2 hours each way)

About Activenorth

Activenorth’s people are a family of five. We live in Skibotn, where we have built our own house, as well as the dog kennel, on Tomas’ family farm.


It all began with one dog named Grace in 2007, and today we have around 30 dogs. We have been running dog sledding tours for tourists since 2008, but this year we are starting a new chapter in our own backyard.



Over the years, we have competed in the world’s longest eight-dog race nine times. We have taken part in races across Finland, Sweden and along the border with Russia.



These incredible dogs have never let us down – not during blizzards, in temperatures as low as -45°C, on difficult trails or in whiteout conditions.



The dogs are our family’s passion, and the children are always included when we race.
