General information
The Arctic Route bus from Tromsø to Sommarøy makes it easy to visit one of Northern Norway’s most beautiful island destinations — completely without a rental car.
This is a direct shuttle service with fixed departures, making it easy to plan a same-day return trip to Sommarøy, with a one-way travel time of 1.5 hours.
Sit back and enjoy a scenic journey through dramatic fjords, mountain landscapes, and white sandy beaches. In just over an hour, you will arrive in Sommarøy, known for its turquoise waters, peaceful atmosphere, and spectacular photo opportunities.
Explore Sommarøy at your own pace. Walk around the island, relax on one of the many white sandy beaches, take a dip in the sea, hike Sørkollen or Nordkollen on Hillesøy, spot Arctic wildlife, enjoy local food at Sommarøy Hotel, and more.

Bus stops & schedule
The bus to Sommarøy departs from Tromsø Prostneset Harbour Terminal, Platform 3, 1st floor.
The bus to Tromsø city centre departs from outside Sommarøy Hotel.
The bus is red and marked with the Bussring and/or Arctic Route logo.
Please note that the bus stops are not marked with “Arctic Route” signs.
Travelling with children
We have booster seats available on board.

Luggage information
Each traveller may bring:
- One small piece of hand luggage that fits under the seat or in the overhead compartment
