Experience Sommarøy from the water on a guided autumn kayaking tour from Tromsø. Paddle between small islands, white sandy beaches and sheltered bays while looking out for sea eagles and other Arctic wildlife.
General information
This tour is operated by Sommarøy Adventure.
Travel by Arctic Route bus from Tromsø to Sommarøy. On arrival at the activity centre, you will meet your guide, get fitted with the necessary kayaking equipment and receive a safety briefing before heading out on the water.
Together, you will explore Sommarøy’s coastal landscape, paddling through sheltered bays and past white sandy beaches and small islands that can only be reached by kayak or boat. Along the way, keep an eye out for sea eagles and other local wildlife.
Halfway through the tour, you will go ashore for a break while your guide shares stories about Sommarøy, its fishing heritage, local life and wildlife.
The tour is suitable for both beginners and experienced paddlers, and no previous kayaking experience is required. Stable tandem kayaks provide a safe and comfortable experience, while experienced paddlers may use a single kayak.
After the kayaking tour, you will return to the activity centre and have some time to explore Sommarøy on your own before taking the Arctic Route bus back to Tromsø city centre.

About Sommarøy Adventure
Sommarøy Adventure is a tour company that offers coastal adventures, including sea kayaking, boat tours and sea-to-summit excursions on foot, skis or snowshoes.
We run tours all year round, with a focus on sea kayaking in both the midnight sun and the polar night. Depending on the season, we offer hiking trips and wildlife safaris, as well as northern lights tours, snowshoe hikes and ski touring.
During the summer season, our primary base is located in Sommarøy, a sea kayaking paradise approximately one hour from Tromsø and a popular destination for kayaking and nature enthusiasts.
In winter, we operate from our outdoor base camp in Eidkjosen and offer convenient bus transfers from Tromsø city centre, which takes only about 15 minutes.
