Join a guided sea kayaking tour on Sommarøy and experience the beautiful coastal landscape from the water.
Before heading out, your guide will help you with the equipment and provide the necessary safety information.
Explore Sommarøy by kayak
Together, you will paddle through sheltered bays, along white sandy beaches and between small islands that can only be reached by kayak or boat.
Along the way, you may be lucky enough to spot sea eagles and other local wildlife. There will be plenty of time to enjoy the scenery, and you will go ashore at a beach for a break.
Your local guide will share stories about Sommarøy’s fishing history, everyday life on the island and the wildlife found in the area.
For both beginners and experienced paddlers
The tour is mainly operated using stable tandem kayaks. Experienced paddlers can request a single kayak, depending on the conditions and the guide’s assessment on the day.
If you would like tips on improving your paddling skills, simply ask your guide during the tour.
Transport:
The tour can be booked with or without transport from Tromsø. Please select your preferred option in the booking calendar.
Minimum age: 10 years

• English-speaking guide
• Sea kayak with necessary kayaking equipment
• Dry suit when needed
• Paddling mittens
• Neoprene boots
• Paddling jacket
• Return transport from Tromsø if this option is selected when booking
Please bring:
• Warm base layers to wear underneath the dry suit
• Warm fleece or jumper
• Hat and gloves
• Water bottle
• Camera or GoPro, optional
Meeting time and place: 8:45 AM (08:45) at the Destination Tromsø Shop on the second floor of Tromsø Havn Prostneset, Samuel Arnesens gate 5, Tromsø, if you have booked the tour with transport.
Duration: 9 AM–3 PM (09:00–15:00), approximately 6 hours
Important information:
• Single kayaks may be available for experienced paddlers and are allocated at the guide’s discretion on the day.
• The tour is not wheelchair accessible.

About Sommarøy Adventure
Sommarøy Adventure is a tour company that offers coastal adventures, including sea kayaking, boat tours and sea-to-summit excursions on foot, skis or snowshoes.
We run tours all year round, with a focus on sea kayaking in both the midnight sun and the polar night. Depending on the season, we offer hiking trips and wildlife safaris, as well as northern lights tours, snowshoe hikes and ski touring.
During the summer season, our primary base is located in Sommarøy, a sea kayaking paradise approximately one hour from Tromsø and a popular destination for kayaking and nature enthusiasts.
In winter, we operate from our outdoor base camp in Eidkjosen and offer convenient bus transfers from Tromsø city centre, which takes only about 15 minutes.
