Join a full-day journey from Tromsø to Vannøya, an Arctic island shaped by the sea, fishing traditions and generations of people living close to nature. A local guide shares stories about growing up on the island and offers an insight into life in this part of Northern Norway.
The journey to Vannøya
The tour travels north from Tromsø through the coastal landscapes of Kvaløya and Ringvassøya before taking the ferry from Hansnes to Vannøya. During the crossing, you can enjoy views of fjords, mountains and islands.
Vannøya lies at the edge of the Norwegian Sea, where mountains rise from the coastline and small communities remain closely connected to the ocean. Life on the island has long been shaped by fishing, changing weather and the natural rhythms of the Arctic.
Coastal landscapes and local life
Throughout the day, the tour makes several stops around the island. You will visit a traditional fishing village, explore quiet coastal areas and learn about local traditions and everyday life on Vannøya.
Depending on the season and a little luck, you may also see sea eagles, seabirds or reindeer.
Hike to a coastal viewpoint
Weather and conditions permitting, the tour includes an easy hike to a viewpoint overlooking the Barents Sea. From here, you can take in views of the surrounding mountains, coastline and open ocean.
Later in the day, the group gathers on a white sandy beach to enjoy a warm meal, cake, coffee and tea by the sea.
Professional photographs taken during the tour are included and shared digitally afterwards.
The tour returns to Tromsø in the evening, with drop-off at the same central location where the journey began.
