- The National Scenic Route on Senja is considered by many to be the most beautiful of Norway’s 18 scenic routes.
- Crystal-clear blue waters, green forests and white mountain peaks create truly spectacular scenery.
- The friendliness of the local people will give this island a special place in your heart.
Island hopping by bus and ferry along the National Scenic Route
Enjoy a wonderful day along the Norwegian coast, travelling from Tromsø to Kvaløya and onwards to Senja. After approximately 1.5 hours on the road, you board a local ferry to Senja, where the dramatic Arctic scenery awaits.
Along the way, there will be photo stops at Camp Steinfjord – once voted Norway’s most beautiful beach. Stretch your legs and take in the Arctic summer landscape while keeping your camera close.
The magic of Senja
Senja is often called “Norway in miniature”. During this tour, you will experience many of the different landscapes Norway is famous for – deep fjords, steep mountains, white sandy beaches and traditional fishing villages. You will travel along one of Norway’s 18 National Scenic Routes on the western side of Senja.
There will also be a photo stop at the scenic Ersfjord beach, surrounded by dramatic mountains and home to the gradually world-famous “Golden Toilet”.
Local lunch at historic Hamn
At the Storbrygga restaurant in the former fishing village of Hamn from the 1880s, you can enjoy a traditional fish soup with two small tastings while overlooking the harbour and the locals’ favourite mountain, Sukkertoppen.
If the weather allows, you can enjoy your lunch outside on the quay in a peaceful maritime setting. Sit back, relax and take it all in.
Food
Fish soup with two small tastings is included in the tour. There is also a kiosk in Hamn selling snacks and drinks.
For the return journey to Tromsø, a food bag with a tasty vegetarian wrap and Arctic water is included. If you would like to buy additional food or drinks, there will be a stop at the local supermarket in Skaland on Senja (approximately 13:35 on the way there and 16:15 on the return journey). Please note that the supermarket is closed on Sundays.
