Hike through Arctic nature from Tromsø to a hidden, hand-built Viking village and discover stories, culture and traditional games.

General information

This tour is operated by Destination Tromsø.

Leave Tromsø behind and hike through the Arctic landscape to a hidden, hand-built Viking village in the mountains.

After approximately 30 minutes by vehicle from Tromsø, the hike begins. The walk to the village takes around 45 minutes. During winter, snowshoes are provided when conditions require them.

At the end of the trail, you will arrive at a Viking village built by hand by a local Viking and his father over more than 30 years. The buildings and details have been created over several decades, giving the village its own distinctive character.

During your visit, you will learn more about Viking life and culture, hear stories about the village and the craftsmanship behind it, and take part in Viking-inspired games and activities.

There will also be time to enjoy a snack and a hot beverage before hiking back through the Arctic landscape. Transport will then take you back to Tromsø.

Departure time: 9:00 AM (09:00) and 1:00 PM (13:00)

Meeting time and place: Meet 15 minutes before departure at the Destination Tromsø Meeting Point at Tromsø Havn Prostneset Terminal, Samuel Arnesens gate 5, 9008 Tromsø.

Important information:

• The hike to the Viking village takes approximately 45 minutes each way
• During winter, snowshoes are used when conditions require them
• The activity is not wheelchair accessible. Please contact the operator for more information
• Please dress appropriately for the weather and activity level
• Staff may refuse participation if a guest's condition or behaviour presents a safety risk, including intoxication or unsafe conduct
