Holiday opening hours

There are many public holidays throughout the year and holiday opening hours will vary from year to year. 

Over Easter and Christmas shops and supermarkets have limited opening hours

• At Easter, the stores will generally close earlier on the Wednesday before Easter and on the Saturday during Easter weekend.
• At Christmas the stores will generally close earlier on Christmas Eve and remain closed on Christmas Day and Boxing Day. You will also find that shopping, dining and night life options are more limited during the Christmas period, although a wide range of activities and accommodation is available.

General opening hours

General opening times for shops in Tromsø are as followed:

• Monday – Friday: 10am – 4:30pm (10:00-16:30)
• Thursday in the city centre: Some shops have late night shopping on Thursdays until 6 pm (18:00)  or 7 pm (19:00)  
• Saturday: 10am – 4 pm (10:00-16:00)
• Sunday: Closed

Shopping centres:

• Jekta and K1: Monday - Friday 10am – 9pm (10:00 – 21:00) / Saturday: 10am - 6pm (10:00 - 18:00) 
• Veita: Monday –Friday: 09am – 6pm (09:00 - 18:00) / Saturday: 10am - 5pm (10:00 - 17:00) 
• Nerstranda and Pyramiden: Monday –Friday: 09am – 8pm (09:00 - 20:00) / Saturday: 10am - 6pm (10:00 - 18:00)  

Supermarkets:

• Monday – Friday: 8am – 11pm (08:00 – 23:00)
• Saturday: 8am – 10pm (08:00 – 22:00)

Here in Norway, all shops except service stations, convenience stores and garden centres are closed on Sundays.

Alcohol sales:

The hours of sale for alcohol are a topic of frequent discussion in Norway. For wine and spirits, this is still controlled and sold through the government-run shops called “Vinmonoploet”. In Tromsø, there are three outlets. All are located at shopping centres – Jekta (near the airport), Nerstranda (city centre) and Pyramiden (on the mainland side of the bridge).

Vinmonopolet opening hours:
Monday – Friday: 10am – 6pm (10.00 – 18.00)
Saturday: 10am – 4pm (10.00 – 16.00)

Beer is sold at all supermarkets and the hours of sale are slightly longer. These hours currently apply:

Monday – Friday: 10am – 8pm (10.00 – 20.00)
Saturday: 10am – 6pm (10.00 – 18.00)
