At Christmas the stores will generally close earlier on Christmas Eve and remain closed on Christmas Day and Boxing Day. You will also find that shopping, dining and night life options are more limited during the Christmas period, although a wide range of activities and accommodation is available.
The hours of sale for alcohol are a topic of frequent discussion in Norway. For wine and spirits, this is still controlled and sold through the government-run shops called “Vinmonoploet”. In Tromsø, there are three outlets. All are located at shopping centres – Jekta (near the airport), Nerstranda (city centre) and Pyramiden (on the mainland side of the bridge).
