Urban experiences meets raw Arctic nature
Huskies, Reindeer and Sami Stories – Day Trip
Join a memorable day trip from Tromsø to the beautiful Lyngenfjord, where Arctic landscapes, living Sámi culture and close encounters with animals take centre stage.
About us
This tour is operated by Lyngenfjord Hotel.
The journey begins with the Arctic Route from Tromsø, travelling through one of Northern Norway’s most scenic fjord landscapes, with views of the dramatic Lyngen Alps and small coastal villages along the way.
Upon arrival at Lyngenfjord Hotel in Skibotn, you will be warmly welcomed by the hotel hosts and Sámi hosts wearing traditional gákti, an important symbol of Sámi culture and identity.
The experience begins at the reindeer enclosure, where you will meet calm and friendly reindeer. Reindeer herding has been a cornerstone of Sámi culture for generations, and here you can get close to the animals, feed them and take photos while learning more about their importance in the north.
You will then be invited into a traditional lavvu tent, where hot and cold drinks are served around the fire. A Sámi host will share stories and traditions connected to Sámi culture, nature and life in the north, offering insight into traditions that are still alive today.
Lunch is served in the restaurant at Lyngenfjord Hotel, where you will enjoy flavourful reindeer soup inspired by local culinary traditions.
After lunch, the journey continues to a nearby husky farm. Here you will meet energetic sled dogs, greet playful puppies and learn more about dog sledding and life at a husky kennel. Inside a lavvu, you will also hear stories about the important role sled dogs have played in the north.
Before returning to Tromsø, there is time to enjoy the view of the fjord, explore the surroundings of the hotel or visit the souvenir shop.
A day filled with nature, culture, history and close encounters with both reindeer and huskies.
