Huskies, Reindeer and Sámi Stories – Day Trip

General information

This tour is operated by Lyngenfjord Hotel.

The journey starts in Tromsø with the Arctic Route bus and takes you through scenic fjord landscapes towards Skibotn, with views of the Lyngen Alps and small coastal villages along the way.

On arrival at Lyngenfjord Hotel, you will be welcomed by your hosts before visiting the reindeer enclosure. Meet and feed the reindeer, take photos and learn more about the important role reindeer have played in Sámi culture and traditions for generations.

The experience continues inside a traditional lavvu, where you can gather around the fire with hot and cold drinks. A Sámi host will share stories about Sámi culture, traditions, nature and life in Northern Norway.

Afterwards, lunch is served at Lyngenfjord Hotel, where you can enjoy reindeer soup inspired by local food traditions.

After lunch, a short minibus ride takes you to a nearby husky farm. Meet energetic sled dogs and playful puppies, learn about life at a husky kennel and hear stories about the role sled dogs have played in the Arctic.

Before travelling back to Tromsø, you will have some free time to enjoy the views of Lyngenfjord, explore the surroundings or visit the hotel shop.

Programme

• 9:00 AM (09:00) – Departure from Tromsø Bus Terminal, Prostneset
• Scenic bus journey towards Lyngenfjord
• 10:50 AM (10:50) – Arrival at Lyngenfjord Hotel in Skibotn
• Welcome by the hotel hosts and Sámi hosts
• 11:00 AM (11:00) – Visit to the reindeer enclosure, including feeding and time for photos
• 11:30 AM (11:30) – Sámi lavvu experience with drinks and storytelling around the fire
• 12:30 PM (12:30) – Lunch at Lyngenfjord Hotel, including traditional reindeer soup
• 1:15 PM (13:15) – Minibus departure to the husky farm
• 1:30 PM (13:30) – Visit to the husky farm to meet sled dogs and puppies and learn more about life at the kennel
• 3:00 PM (15:00) – Return to Lyngenfjord Hotel
• Free time to explore the surroundings or visit the hotel shop
• 3:35 PM (15:35) – Departure by Arctic Route bus back to Tromsø
