Experience a guided midnight sun kayaking tour on Sommarøy, with transport from Tromsø. Paddle through crystal-clear water, look for Arctic wildlife and enjoy the coastal scenery of white sandy beaches, islets and skerries under the midnight sun.
General information
This tour is operated by Sommarøy Adventure.
Start your adventure with a convenient pick-up from Tromsø city centre, followed by a scenic 50-minute bus ride to Sommarøy. Along the way, you can enjoy views of mountains, fjords and Arctic coastal landscapes.
After a safety briefing and kayaking introduction at the activity centre, your guide will take you to the best paddling area based on the day’s weather and wind conditions.
As you paddle silently through the clear water, keep an eye out for seals, sea eagles, otters and porpoises. Your guide will also share stories about Sommarøy’s fishing heritage, everyday life and wildlife in the area.
Midway through the tour, we stop at a secluded beach for a peaceful break surrounded by beautiful coastal nature.
The tour is suitable for both beginners and those with previous kayaking experience. Stable double kayaks provide a safe and comfortable experience, while single kayaks may be available for experienced paddlers.
The tour ends back at the activity centre after a kayaking distance of approximately 5 km, before the bus transfer back to Tromsø.
Good to know:
• Minimum age to participate is 10 years
• This tour is not accessible for wheelchair users
• No previous kayaking experience is needed
• All tours are led by certified local instructors and adjusted to the weather conditions to ensure safety and comfort
• Please let the guide know about any medical conditions or other relevant information before the tour starts
• This tour is weather-dependent and may be rescheduled or cancelled for safety reasons. A full refund will be offered if the tour is cancelled

About Sommarøy Adventure
Sommarøy Adventure is a tour company that offers coastal adventures, including sea kayaking, boat tours and sea-to-summit excursions on foot, skis or snowshoes.
We run tours all year round, with a focus on sea kayaking in both the midnight sun and the polar night. Depending on the season, we offer hiking trips and wildlife safaris, as well as northern lights tours, snowshoe hikes and ski touring.
During the summer season, our primary base is located in Sommarøy, a sea kayaking paradise approximately one hour from Tromsø and a popular destination for kayaking and nature enthusiasts.
In winter, we operate from our outdoor base camp in Eidkjosen and offer convenient bus transfers from Tromsø city centre, which takes only about 15 minutes.
