Come and visit our herd of 120 reindeer, and let the beauty of Northern Norway and Sámi culture take your breath away!

General information

This tour is operated by Tromsø Lapland.

Located in a beautiful valley nestled between Norwegian mountains, just 50 minutes from Tromsø city centre, our camp gives you the chance to meet our reindeer, feed them, stroke them and take wonderful photos.

Afterwards, our Sámi guides will introduce you to centuries of Indigenous history and culture. You will enjoy a traditional taste of bidos, a reindeer stew with potatoes and carrots in brown gravy, while hearing stories about Sámi culture, from reindeer herding and courtship customs to old tales and family anecdotes. A vegan option is available.

• 50-minute scenic transfer to the camp and back to the city
• Feeding our reindeer
• Traditional lunch with bidos, bread, margarine, biscuits, hot chocolate, coffee and tea
• Vegan option: Norwegian-style vegetable soup with potatoes, turnip, carrots, onions, leek, salt, pepper, spices and broth. Gluten-free option available.
• 30-minute introduction to Sámi culture with a Sámi guide
• Snowsuits, boot covers, hats and mittens

We Sámi are the indigenous people of Scandinavia and have been living and working with reindeers for centuries.

 


We have countless generations of knowledge and experience of the fascinating and charming creature that has helped us survive life in this cold and extreme nature of the north. The reindeer is the true hero of the Arctic.
