Meet and feed reindeer, try lasso throwing and discover Sámi culture and joik on a three-hour tour from Tromsø, with return transport and hot drinks included.

General information

This tour is operated by Tromsø Arctic Reindeer.

Join a short and memorable experience from Tromsø, where you can meet and feed reindeer, try traditional lasso throwing and learn about Sámi culture and reindeer herding.

Your journey begins with a scenic 30–35 minute bus ride from Tromsø through the coastal landscape of Northern Norway. Upon arrival at the reindeer camp, you will be welcomed by a Sámi reindeer-herding family and introduced to their herd of hundreds of reindeer. Here, you can walk among the animals and feed them by hand.

You will also have the opportunity to try traditional lasso throwing, a skill that has been part of Sámi reindeer herding for generations. The activity does not involve throwing lassos at live reindeer.

After spending time outdoors, warm up around the fire inside a traditional Sámi gamme, where tea, coffee, hot chocolate and cookies are served.

The visit concludes with a cultural experience inside the lavvu. Your Sámi guide will share stories about Sámi traditions, history and everyday life as a reindeer herder. You will also experience joik, a traditional form of Sámi singing.

Afterwards, the bus will take you back to Tromsø.
