Reindeer Sledding and Sami Culture - 1pm departure

This tour is conducted by Tromsø Lapland

You’ll start your adventure with a pick-up right outside the Radisson Blu Hotel in Tromsø—just look for the guide wearing a traditional blue Luhkka (Sami poncho) and the bus marked with a large “SLEDDING” sign. Once you’ve checked in, our guides will give you a bracelet indicating you’re part of the sledding experience.

Then, relax and enjoy a scenic 45-minute drive through the majestic Northern Norwegian landscape as we make our way to the camp. Upon arrival, you’ll be welcomed by our Sami guide, who will give a short safety briefing and help you get ready for your adventure.

We’ll split into two groups for the sled ride. The first group will set off on a 2.5 km loop through the stunning Arctic wilderness—an unforgettable journey through snow-covered terrain using one of the oldest forms of transportation. It’s your chance to experience the tundra just as the Sami people have for generations. When the first group returns, it will be the second group’s turn to enjoy this timeless experience.

After sledding, we’ll head to the reindeer enclosure, where you’ll get to feed our gentle and curious reindeer—many of them will even eat straight from your hand!

Next, enjoy a warm and cozy lunch inside our Gamme (a modern version of a traditional Sami hut) or Lavvu (a classic Sami tent, similar to a tipi). You’ll be served hot drinks and Bidos, a traditional Sami stew made with reindeer meat, potatoes, and carrots—typically served at celebrations. We also offer a hearty vegan alternative: a vegetable soup with lentils, carrots, broccoli, and green beans.

Once everyone has had a chance to warm up and settle in, our Sami guide will share stories about Sami history and culture, and show you traditional handicrafts and clothing. Feel free to ask questions—curiosity is always welcome!

Before heading back to Tromsø, you’ll have time for a bathroom break and a visit to our charming souvenir shop to pick up a keepsake from your Arctic adventure.

Included: Scenic transfers (45 minutes each way), knowledgeable English-speaking Sami guide, entrance to the fence and feeding of the herd at our camp, hot drinks and hot meal (traditional Sámi stew or vegetable soup), approximately 30 minutes of reindeer sledding, and stories about the life and culture of the Sámi people.
