Meet and feed reindeer, enjoy a 10–15 minute sled ride and learn about Sámi culture from a local reindeer-herding family.

General information

This tour is operated by Best Arctic in cooperation with Samiway.

Travel from Tromsø to Camp Heggeli in Nordkjosbotn, where you will meet a local Sámi reindeer-herding family and learn about their culture and traditions.

Meet and feed the reindeer before enjoying a peaceful 10–15 minute sled ride through the snow-covered landscape. You will also have the opportunity to try lasso throwing, a traditional skill used in reindeer herding.

After the outdoor activities, warm up around the fire inside a heated lávvu. Enjoy a bowl of warm soup with bread, coffee or tea while your hosts share stories about Sámi culture, reindeer herding and life today.

The reindeer sled ride is subject to suitable snow conditions. The return journey to Tromsø takes place after dark, and you may be lucky enough to see the Northern Lights if the sky is clear. Sightings cannot be guaranteed.
