Immerse yourself in Sámi traditions with an authentic evening adventure at Camp Tamok, where cultural storytelling, a reindeer visit and the chance to experience the Northern Lights create a memorable Arctic experience.

General information

This tour is operated by Destination Tromsø.

Escape the city lights and join a magical evening journey from Tromsø to the Tamok Valley. After a scenic bus ride of approximately 90 minutes, you will arrive at the remote and peaceful wilderness camp, Camp Tamok.

Upon arrival, your experienced guide will greet you and provide thermal suits, boots and mittens to ensure you stay warm and comfortable during the Arctic winter evening. After a short transfer by minibus, you will meet our friendly reindeer herd, which consists of 5–6 reindeer.

Listen to engaging stories about the Sámi way of life, their deep connection to nature and traditions passed down through generations. You will also have the opportunity to feed the reindeer and get close to these iconic Arctic animals.

Surrounded by darkness and with little light pollution, the conditions are well suited for seeing the Northern Lights, if the weather and solar activity are on our side. If the Northern Lights appear, this can become a magical highlight of the evening.

After the cultural experience, you return to Camp Tamok and relax in a traditional Sámi lavvu. Here, you can enjoy a warm meal and hot drinks by the fire, and share experiences with fellow travellers. The cosy atmosphere of the lavvu provides a warm setting to slow down, reflect on the evening and enjoy the Arctic night.

As the evening comes to an end, you return to Tromsø by bus.
