Sommarøy Fjord Tour with Sami Guide & Lunch

Join us on a breathtaking tour along Kvaløya’s coastal road and Sommarøy, featuring scenic views, wildlife, dramatic fjords, sandy beaches and mountains.

About us

This tour is conducted by Wondering Reindeer.


We combine this tour with many scenic stops along the road, which include learning about local Sami history, as well as a delicious lunch in the Sommarøy Arctic Restaurant.

  • Learn the Sami names of fjords and mountains, and the story behind them


Scenic Drives

After about half a hour's drive from Tromsø, we will arrive at Kvaløya, an island surrounded by majestic mountains and Arctic fjords. You will enjoy the view of the landscape along the coastal road while we drive. We stop at various suitable places to admire the landscapes we pass.

Wildlife

Kvaløya has a rich wildlife and sometimes you can spot different animals during our drive.

  • Reindeer and Moose grazing close to the road

  • Otters

  • Eagles and plenty of other seabirds

Every day is different - we never know what we are going to spot on our journey.

 

Lunch Include

At midday, we stop at the Sommarøy Arctic Hotel, beautifully located by the seaside.

Lunch will be served at Sommarøy Arctic Hotel restaurant at approximately 12:30pm. Normally we order from the restaurant menu with plenty of options!

Some Options:

  • Burgers: Angusburger, reindeer, fish or vegetarian burger

  • Soups: Fish soup, vegetable soup

  • Whale stew, Bacalao

There are plenty of vegan, vegetarian and gluten-free options.

Sometimes, the restaurant serves a large lunch buffet, and if so, that will be served instead of food from the menu.

For dessert, we offer a selection of cakes and fruit salad, as well as coffee and tea.


End of the tour

After enjoying Sommarøy with food, coffee, and tea, it is time to head back to Tromsø and reflect on a memorable experience. We arrive back at the meeting point Scandic Ishavshotel Tromsø at about 3:15 PM (15:15).

This tour is easy but includes some walking off the beaten track in snowy conditions. Therefore, it is not suitable for children under 3 years or strollers. If you have any handicap or disabilities, please let us know; we will try to help as far as we can.
