General information

This tour is operated by Sommarøy Adventure.

Welcome to our activity centre on Sommarøy. After a safety briefing and introduction to kayaking at our activity centre, your guide will lead you to the best area based on the weather conditions.

As you paddle silently through the clear waters, keep an eye out for seals, sea eagles, otters and playful porpoises, often drawn to the kayaks by curiosity. Surrounded by incredible views, your guide will share fascinating stories about Sommarøy’s fishing heritage and everyday life, along with insights into the region’s wildlife. Midway through the tour, we will stop at a secluded beach for a peaceful break.

Whether you are new to kayaking or a seasoned paddler, our stable double kayaks, or single kayaks for experienced paddlers, ensure a comfortable experience.

The tour ends back at the activity centre. Kayak distance is approx. 5 km.

Important:

• This tour does not include transport to and from Tromsø.
• The minimum age to participate in this tour is 10 years.

Included: Free parking at the activity centre, certified local guide with experience kayaking in Arctic conditions, sea kayak and all necessary gear, dry suit if needed, paddle mittens, neoprene boots and paddle vest
Please bring: Warm wool or thermal base layers to wear underneath the dry suit, warm fleece or jumper, beanie and gloves, camera/GoPro if desired and water bottle
Number of participants: Min. 4 – max. 16
Level of difficulty: Moderate. No previous kayaking experience is required

About Sommarøy Adventure

Sommarøy Adventure is a tour company that offers coastal adventures, including sea kayaking, boat tours and sea-to-summit excursions on foot, skis or snowshoes.


We run tours all year round, with a focus on sea kayaking in both the midnight sun and the polar night. Depending on the season, we offer hiking trips and wildlife safaris, as well as northern lights tours, snowshoe hikes and ski touring.



During the summer season, our primary base is located in Sommarøy, a sea kayaking paradise approximately one hour from Tromsø and a popular destination for kayaking and nature enthusiasts.



In winter, we operate from our outdoor base camp in Eidkjosen and offer convenient bus transfers from Tromsø city centre, which takes only about 15 minutes.



We are proud to have local guides with extensive knowledge of the region and the skills needed for guiding in the Arctic.
