Stortorget
Stortorget is a central meeting place in downtown Tromsø, surrounded by restaurants, shops and other amenities. The square also hosts markets, events and festivals.
About us
The Fangst- og fiskerimonumentet memorial was erected in memory of hunters and fishermen who lost their lives at sea. The monument was unveiled in 1984 and was created by artist Sivert Donali.
Next to Stortorget, you will also find the historic Rakettkiosken, originally known as Løkkekiosken. In 1911, 18-year-old Margit Løkke was granted permission to establish the kiosk, which she later operated as a newspaper kiosk. The distinctive kiosk still stands in the same location and is now a protected cultural heritage site and a well-known feature of Tromsø's cityscape.
