Tromsø is situated in Northern Norway at latitude 69 ⁰N. On a small island surrounded by majestic mountains and fjords you will find the city of Tromsø with hotels and apartments, restaurants and bars, as well as exciting culture offers. With Tromsø as your base, you can combine the experience of raw, pristine nature with a more urban lifestyle, exactly as you wish. The most common way to travel to Tromsø is by air, but it’s also possible to travel by boat or bus. A large number of cruise ships call in Tromsø annually.
 

To Tromsø by air

Tromsø Airport Langnes is located approximately 5 km from the city centre. There are more than 10 daily flights from Oslo to Tromsø. The flight time is approximately 1 hour 40 minutes. 

Domestic flights

SAS, Widerøe  and Norwegian offer direct flights to Tromsø from several destinations in Norway.

International flights

Most international flights to Tromsø go via Oslo, but there are direct flights from London-Gatwick, Frankfurt, Düsseldorf, Helsinki, Copenhagen and Stockholm. 

 

Travel by coastal voyage

Hurtigruten and Havila sails all year round between Bergen and Kirkenes, and calls at Tromsø twice daily.

Approximate travel times from the south are: 

Bergen: 64 hours
Trondheim: 51 hours
Bodø: 24 hours
Svolvær: 17 hours
Harstad: 7 hours
Finnsnes: 3 hours

Approximate travel times from the north are: 

Kirkenes: 35 hours
Honningsvåg (close to Nordkapp): 18 hours
Hammerfest: 12 hours
Skjervøy: 4 hours

Travel by bus and train

Long-distance bus services connect Tromsø with Alta, Narvik and Fauske all year round and Rovaniemi (Finland) during the summer months. There is no train service to Tromsø. The nearest train station is in Narvik (for the Swedish railway connection through to Abisko, Kiruna and Stockholm) and Fauske (for the Norwegian railway line through to Trondheim and Oslo).

There is a daily train service from Oslo, Bergen and Trondheim to Fauske, from where there is a long-distance bus to Tromsø via Narvik.

Bus from Bodø / Fause via Narvik to Tromsø

There is a daily bus departing from Bodø at 07:15 (7.15 am), Fauske train station at 08:50 (8.50 am) and arriving in Narvik at 13:30 (1.30 pm). The bus departs for Tromsø at 15:45 (3.45 pm) and arrives in Tromsø at 19:50 (7.50 pm).

Train from Sweden

Trains from Stockholm and Kiruna connect to Narvik, from where there are bus connections to Tromsø.

Bus from Finland to Tromsø

There are bus connections from Helsinki/Rovaniemi/Kilpisjärvi to Tromsø during the summer and in the winter from December 1st until the end of March.
