Viking Village Hike from Tromsø

Join a unique adventure outside Tromsø, where a guided hike through the Arctic landscape takes you to a hidden Viking village, built entirely by hand over more than 30 years.

Your experience begins with a scenic 30-minute drive from Tromsø, followed by a hike of approximately 45 minutes through the surrounding nature. During winter, snowshoes are provided when conditions require them. Along the way, you leave the modern world behind and venture further into the peaceful Arctic landscape.

At the end of the trail, you will discover a remarkable Viking village, built by a local Viking enthusiast and his father over three decades. Every building and detail has been crafted by hand, reflecting years of dedication, traditional craftsmanship and a personal passion for Viking history.

During your visit, you will hear stories about Viking life and culture, learn how the village came to be and discover the craftsmanship behind its unique buildings. You will also have the opportunity to take part in fun Viking-inspired games and activities.

There will be time to enjoy the atmosphere with a snack and a hot drink before hiking back through the Arctic landscape. From there, transport will take you back to Tromsø.

This experience is ideal for those looking to combine outdoor adventure, local history and culture while discovering a place away from the usual tourist routes.

Level of difficulty: The tour involves a hike of approximately 45 minutes each way through natural terrain, with snowshoes used during winter when conditions require them.

Meeting time and place: At least 15 minutes before your selected departure time at the Destination Tromsø Meeting Point, Tromsø Havn Prostneset Terminal, Samuel Arnesens gate 5, 9008 Tromsø.

• 1:00 PM (13:00)

Duration: Approximately 4 hours and 30 minutes, including return transport from Tromsø.

Important information:
• The hike to the Viking village takes approximately 45 minutes each way.
• During winter, snowshoes are used when conditions require them.
• This activity is not wheelchair accessible. Please contact the operator for more information.
• Please dress appropriately for the weather and activity level, and wear suitable footwear for the season.
• A minimum of 6 participants is required for the tour to take place.
