Join a whale watching tour from Tromsø to Skjervøy by bus and hybrid-electric boat, with Arctic fjords, the Lyngen Alps and whale watching along the way.
General information
This tour is operated by Brim Explorer.
Travel from Tromsø to Skjervøy by bus and boat in search of whales, while experiencing the Arctic landscape from both land and sea. The coach offers comfortable seating, while Brim Explorer’s hybrid-electric vessel has heated panoramic saloons with large windows.
At the beginning of the tour, guests are divided into two groups. One group travels to Skjervøy by boat and returns to Tromsø by bus, while the other travels to Skjervøy by bus and returns to Tromsø by boat.
Start the day by boat:
Depart Tromsø by boat and travel through Arctic waters to Skjervøy. The journey takes approximately 2.5 hours. Once you reach Skjervøy, around 1.5 hours are spent searching for and observing whales.
Afterwards, the vessel docks in Skjervøy and you continue by bus through the fjord landscape and past the Lyngen Alps on the return journey to Tromsø.
Start the day by bus:
Depart Tromsø by bus and travel through the countryside, past fjords and the Lyngen Alps, to Skjervøy. On arrival, board the hybrid-electric vessel and sail towards the areas where whales feed.
Around 1.5 hours are spent searching for and observing whales before the vessel continues all the way back to Tromsø.
Whale watching with reduced engine noise:
During the boat journey, the captain and crew keep an eye out for whales. When whales are spotted, the vessel switches to its quieter electric propulsion system to minimise noise and disturbance while observing them.
Whale sightings cannot be guaranteed, and it may take time to locate the animals.
The vessel has heated indoor saloons with panoramic windows, providing a warm and comfortable place to relax during the journey. Food and drinks can be purchased from the café on board.
Please bring warm clothing if you wish to spend time outside, as conditions at sea can be very cold.

Important information:
• Whale sightings cannot be guaranteed
• The whale-watching season varies from year to year but normally runs from November until the end of January
• The duration depends on the location of the whales and may vary between eight and nine hours
• Brim Explorer reserves the right to operate the tour entirely by boat if there are not enough participants to operate both the bus and boat journey. In this case, up to two hours may be spent searching for and observing whales
• Conditions at sea may be rough. We recommend bringing seasickness tablets if you are prone to seasickness
• Outside food and beverages are not permitted on board

Our ship is built with universal design, enabelling guests with disabilities to participate. Guests arriving in a wheelchair will have access to the main deck where you can move both indoor and outdoor on deck and find accessible toilet facilities, the restaurant and information screens.
Our passion for the ocean and the environment is the backbone of our operation. We collaborate with Zing Ocean Conservancy, a non-profit environmental organization working to conserve and improve the ocean´s health and prevent marine pollution. As well as providing sustainable travel, we aim to give 1% of our profits to ocean conservation efforts, starting 2019.
