Explore the Arctic wilderness on a private guided Nordic ski tour near Tromsø, with snowy landscapes and a chance to see the Northern Lights.

General information

This tour is operated by Tromsø Ski Guides.

Experience the Arctic winter night on a guided Nordic skiing adventure in the mountains surrounding Tromsø. Join a private evening tour through snow-covered landscapes, away from the city lights, with the possibility of seeing the Northern Lights if conditions allow.

Together with an experienced guide, you'll explore peaceful forests and gently rolling mountain terrain. Along the way, enjoy views of the surrounding fjords and mountains, look for animal tracks in the snow and experience the tranquillity of the Arctic wilderness.

The tour includes a stop around a bonfire, where you can enjoy a warm drink, take photos and listen to stories before continuing back towards your transport.

This beginner-friendly experience is adapted to your group's abilities and experience. The tour is arranged privately for families, couples and small groups. You can choose between Nordic backcountry skis, snowshoes or ski touring equipment, depending on your group's preferences.

Included:
• Guiding and instruction by a certified guide
• Return transport between Tromsø and the mountain area
• Hot drinks around the bonfire

Food and drink:
• Hot drinks are included
• Bring your own food and snacks as needed

Please bring:
• Windproof and waterproof jacket and trousers, or suitable ski clothing
• Wool or synthetic base layers
• Wool or fleece mid-layer
• Wool socks and a warm hat
• Two pairs of mittens or gloves
• Extra warm sweater and down or insulated jacket
• Headlamp (the guide has spare headlamps available)
• Cold drink and food or snacks for a 3–4-hour excursion
• Backpack, approximately 30–40 litres

Equipment:
Nordic skis, snowshoes and ski touring equipment are not included and must be rented in advance from Tromsø Outdoor. Pre-booked equipment is collected at the meeting point before departure.

Minimum age: 8 years

Number of participants: 1–8 people. Private tour.

Level of difficulty: Easy. The tour is adapted to the group's abilities and experience.

Meeting time and place: 4:30 PM (16:30) at Tromsø Outdoor, Fredrik Langes gate 14, 9008 Tromsø. Meet your guide and collect any pre-booked rental equipment.

Departure time: 5:00 PM (17:00), with transport to the mountain area.

Duration: 4–5 hours, including transportation.

Season: November–March.

Important information:
• This experience is booked as a private group tour.
• Equipment must be reserved in advance through Tromsø Outdoor.
• Bring extra warm clothing, including a down jacket or vest and two pairs of mittens or ski gloves.
• Northern Lights sightings depend on weather and aurora conditions and cannot be guaranteed.

Tromsø Ski Guides is a locally based guiding company offering guided ski touring, avalanche courses and tailor-made mountain experiences in Tromsø, Lyngen and Senja.


Based in Tromsø, Tromsø Ski Guides is owned and operated by Lena Dahl, Edda Rainer and Bård Helge Strand. The company has a professional guiding team with over 35 years of combined experience and expertise in skiing, mountain activities and avalanche safety.



We offer guided ski touring in the mountains around Tromsø, Lyngen and Senja, ranging from introductory and shorter ski tours to full-day and multi-day adventures. Our tours are adapted to participants' abilities and experience, with options for both beginners and experienced skiers.



We also offer introductory and advanced avalanche courses, as well as guided evening adventures on skis and snowshoes in the Arctic winter landscape.



For private groups and corporate clients, we arrange tailor-made tours, events and expeditions. Through our network of local partners, we can also assist with accommodation, transport and planning longer ski touring adventures.
