General information

This journey is operated by Arctic Route, part of Best Arctic, in cooperation with Eskelisen Lapin Linjat in Finland.

Travel between Tromsø in Northern Norway and Rovaniemi in Finnish Lapland in one day. Along the way, the route passes Norwegian fjords and tundra landscapes before continuing through Finnish Lapland, with stops including Kilpisjärvi, Karesuvanto, Muonio, Levi, Kittilä and Rovaniemi.

The route also connects with Kittilä Airport, Levi Ski Resort and Santa Claus Village, making it possible to combine several destinations in Northern Norway and Finnish Lapland without a car.

The journey is operated with comfortable coaches. Between Tromsø and Kilpisjärvi, Arctic Route buses have free Wi-Fi, USB and charging points, a toilet on board and English-speaking drivers.

Bus change in Kilpisjärvi:

You will change buses at K-Market in Kilpisjärvi, by the petrol station.

• Tromsø–Rovaniemi: Change from the red Arctic Route bus to the yellow and red bus operated by Eskelisen Lapin Linjat.
• Rovaniemi–Tromsø: Change from the Eskelisen Lapin Linjat bus to the red Arctic Route bus.

Tromsø–Rovaniemi:

• Departure from Tromsø Prostneset Bus Terminal, Platform 2: 7 AM (07:00), Norwegian time
• Arrival at Rovaniemi Railway Station: 5:20 PM (17:20), Finnish time
• Arrival at Rovaniemi Bus Station: 5:25 PM (17:25), Finnish time
• Arrival at Santa Claus Village: 5:35 PM (17:35), Finnish time

Rovaniemi–Tromsø:

• Departure from Santa Claus Village: 11 AM (11:00), Finnish time
• Departure from Rovaniemi Railway Station: 11:20 AM (11:20), Finnish time
• Departure from Rovaniemi Bus Station: 11:40 AM (11:40), Finnish time
• Arrival at Tromsø Prostneset Bus Terminal: 7:45 PM (19:45), Norwegian time

Duration: Approximately 10.5 hours for the full journey between Tromsø and Rovaniemi.

Food and drink: Food is not included. You may bring food with you on the bus. A longer stop of approximately 30 minutes is made in Karesuvanto, where you can buy food and coffee and stretch your legs.

Please bring: Your passport, as the journey crosses the border between Norway and Finland. Dress comfortably and according to the weather.

Luggage:

Each passenger may bring one piece of hand luggage that fits under the seat or in the overhead rack, as well as one larger piece of luggage. The total height + length + width of the larger item must not exceed 200 cm, and the maximum weight is 23 kg.

Minimum age: All ages. Child seats are available and must be arranged with Best Arctic in advance.

Important information:

• Finland is one hour ahead of Norway. Departure and arrival times are shown in local time.
• A bus change is required in Kilpisjärvi.
• Arctic Route buses between Tromsø and Kilpisjärvi are red and marked with the Arctic Route logo. Eskelisen Lapin Linjat buses are yellow and red.
• Free Wi-Fi is available between Tromsø and Kilpisjärvi only.
• Travel times may be extended due to Arctic weather and road conditions.
• Animals are not permitted on board, with the exception of guide dogs.
