Drive a snowmobile along a 20 km trail through varied terrain and into the snow-covered mountains outside Tromsø.

General information

This tour is operated by North Experience.

Travel from Tromsø to North Experience’s basecamp in Hatteng. On arrival, you will receive warm winter clothing and equipment before your guide provides a safety briefing and practical instructions on how to operate the snowmobile.

The excursion follows a 20 km trail through varied terrain and into the snow-covered mountains. Several stops will be made along the way, giving you time to take photos, enjoy the Arctic landscape and play in the snow.

Two guests share each snowmobile, with one driver and one passenger. You will have several opportunities to switch places during the excursion, allowing both participants to drive if they hold a valid driving licence.

After returning to the basecamp, warm up and enjoy a hot meal with warm drinks before travelling back to Tromsø.

Minimum age to participate: 12 years. Children aged 12–15 must be at least 140 cm tall and can only participate as passengers.

Food and drinks: A hot meal and warm drinks are included. Please provide details of any food allergies or dietary requirements when booking.

Please bring: Warm woollen base layers and a valid driving licence if you wish to drive the snowmobile

Departure time and meeting point: 9 AM (09:00) at Magic Ice Bar, Kaigata 4, Tromsø

Duration: Approx. 7.5 hours, including transport. You will spend approx. 1.5–2 hours on the snowmobile.

Important information:

• Snowmobile drivers must hold a valid driving licence.
• Children aged 12–15 must be at least 140 cm tall and can only participate as passengers.
• Two guests share each snowmobile and may take turns driving.
• The duration and route may be adjusted depending on the weather, snow and trail conditions.

About North Experience

North Experience offers snowmobile and ATV safaris, glass igloo stays and other Arctic experiences from its basecamp in Storfjord.


Our basecamp is located in Hatteng in Storfjord, around a 90-minute drive from Tromsø. From here, we offer experiences in the surrounding mountain and winter landscapes.



Our activities include daytime and evening snowmobile safaris and ATV safaris in the Lyngenfjord area. We also offer combined experiences where activities and accommodation can be part of the same stay.



At Aurora Basecamp, guests can stay in AuroraHut glass igloos with large windows overlooking the sky and surrounding landscape. The basecamp also has a sauna, outdoor jacuzzi, lavvu and meeting facilities.



North Experience also works with film and television productions in Northern Norway. We provide local knowledge, location support and coordination, and collaborate with Filmcamp on productions in the region.
