General information

This tour is operated by Tromsø Budget Tours.

On this tour, we cover the area of Tromsø within the original borders established in 1794, from Strandtorget in the south to Skansen in the north. Even before the city was formally established, there had been centuries of human activity in this area. The last 230 years in particular have shaped Tromsø into what it is today.

In addition to a wealth of historical sites, we will also encounter statues, busts and murals telling the stories of people who forged their destiny in the Arctic. Tromsø has played a significant role in the lives of world-famous figures such as Roald Amundsen, as well as local heroes such as Wanny Woldstad and the polar bear king, Henry Rudi.

A visit to a museum that brings their stories even closer to us is included in the tour, and we will finish at one of the oldest and most authentic bars in town, reflecting the maritime heritage of our city. We might even see a polar bear, or two. But don’t worry, they won’t be hungry – in fact, they are quite stuffed.
