per person
To drive your own team of huskies is an experience out of the ordinary and a must-do for anyone visiting Northern Norway.
General information
This tour is operated by Destination Tromsø.
Join an active dog sledding adventure in beautiful surroundings at Breivikeidet, with the Lyngen Alps as a dramatic backdrop.
We pick you up in Tromsø city centre and take you by bus to our dog sledding camp at Breivikeidet, approximately 50 minutes from the city. Upon arrival at the camp, which is beautifully located close to the sea, you will be welcomed by our friendly guides. They will provide you with thermal suits, boots, hats and mittens before the dog sledding tour begins.
Your guide will go through the safety instructions and show you the basics of driving a dog sled. After the demonstration and a few minutes of practice, you head out on your adventure with the dogs leading the way.
Two people share one sled and one dog team. One person drives, while the other can sit back and enjoy the ride as a passenger. Halfway through the tour, you switch places, giving both guests the chance to experience driving the sled and enjoy the views as a passenger.
The dogs are well trained and love to run, but dog sledding is also about teamwork. On parts of the tour, you may need to help the dogs by pushing the sled.
The dog sledding tour itself lasts approximately 65 minutes. The exact duration may vary from day to day, depending on weather and trail conditions.
When you return to camp, hot drinks and cake are served around the fire in our lavvu. After warming up and changing back into your own clothes, it is time to wave goodbye to the huskies and return to Tromsø by bus.
Important information:
• The minimum age for participation is 7 years.
• Please always inform us of any children’s ages when booking, so our guides can prepare the tour accordingly.
• Every child must be accompanied by an adult.
• Children over the age of 11 with an adult ticket may, for safety reasons, be refused the opportunity to drive the sled. This depends on their age, weight and weather conditions.
• This tour is not recommended for pregnant guests.
• You should be able to stand and move around on a sled for more than half an hour and have a basic level of agility.
• Please let us know of any physical conditions we should be aware of when preparing for the tour.
• This dog sledding tour has been carefully designed to be accessible to most guests. Although you need basic physical fitness to move around on snowy terrain and assist the dogs by pushing the sled when driving, the terrain is relatively flat and open, making the sledding comfortable and manageable.
• Cancellation due to weather: In case of a lack of snow, the tour may in some cases be conducted on wheeled wagons. For the safety of both animals and guests, there is a small risk of cancellation in challenging or dangerous weather and trail conditions. In such cases, you will be offered the option to reschedule the tour to another time or location, choose a similar alternative product or receive a full refund.
