“Know Before You Go” is a 3–5-hour experience in the mountains around Tromsø, led by a local ski guide or instructor from Tromsø Ski Guides.

Learn more about local snow conditions and how to plan ski touring adventures in the Tromsø region.

Together with your guide, you'll explore important topics such as weather, avalanche hazards and terrain, as well as useful apps and information sources used by locals when planning trips in the mountains.

You'll also discuss the current snow conditions and dig a snow pit together to gain a better understanding of the snowpack.

This experience is ideal for anyone planning to ski or snowboard in the Tromsø region. Even experienced backcountry skiers and snowboarders visiting Tromsø for the first time can benefit from the guide's local knowledge and insights into the area's conditions.

Tromsø Ski Guides is a locally based guiding company offering guided ski touring, avalanche courses and tailor-made mountain experiences in Tromsø, Lyngen and Senja.


Based in Tromsø, Tromsø Ski Guides is owned and operated by Lena Dahl, Edda Rainer and Bård Helge Strand. The company has a professional guiding team with over 35 years of combined experience and expertise in skiing, mountain activities and avalanche safety.



We offer guided ski touring in the mountains around Tromsø, Lyngen and Senja, ranging from introductory and shorter ski tours to full-day and multi-day adventures. Our tours are adapted to participants' abilities and experience, with options for both beginners and experienced skiers.



We also offer introductory and advanced avalanche courses, as well as guided evening adventures on skis and snowshoes in the Arctic winter landscape.



For private groups and corporate clients, we arrange tailor-made tours, events and expeditions. Through our network of local partners, we can also assist with accommodation, transport and planning longer ski touring adventures.
