Northern Lights Tour with Local Guide and Photos

This tour is organised by Arctic Glow.

Leave the city lights behind and join a small-group Northern Lights tour from Tromsø, led by local guides from Northern Norway and an experienced Arctic driver. Travelling in a comfortable Mercedes Sprinter minibus allows the route to be adapted throughout the evening according to the latest weather forecasts, cloud conditions and aurora activity.

Every evening is different. Depending on the conditions, the tour may follow the coast, head into inland valleys or cross the border into Finland or Sweden in search of clearer skies. Stops are made along the way to observe the sky and adjust the route when needed.

Throughout the evening, your guide shares stories about life in Arctic Norway and explains the science behind the Northern Lights. When suitable conditions are found, there is time to enjoy the surroundings and wait for the aurora. The heated minibus is available whenever you need to warm up, and thermal suits are available on request.

Hot drinks including coffee, tea, hot chocolate and blackcurrant juice are served during the tour, together with traditional Norwegian snacks and homemade cake.

When the Northern Lights appear, your guide can take portrait photographs of guests who would like them. The guide also photographs the aurora and surrounding landscape throughout the evening. Edited photographs are shared with you after the tour at no extra cost.

At the end of the evening, drop-off is available at selected central locations in Tromsø, including city-centre hotels, Tromsø Library and the central taxi rank. For guests staying in Tromsdalen, drop-off is also available at the Arctic Cathedral or Pyramiden. The guide coordinates the drop-off locations during the tour.

The Northern Lights are a natural phenomenon and sightings cannot be guaranteed.

Please bring: ID or passport, warm clothing with thermal layers, winter outerwear, a warm hat, gloves and winter footwear. ID or passport is required as the tour may cross the border into Finland or Sweden.

• 1–15 September: 8:30 PM (20:30) from Kirkegata 2, Tromsø city centre
• 16 September–26 March: 6:30 PM (18:30) from Kirkegata 2, Tromsø city centre
• 27 March–14 April: 8:30 PM (20:30) from Kirkegata 2, Tromsø city centre

Please meet 15 minutes before departure for check-in and important tour information.

Duration: Approximately 5–8 hours.

Important information:

• The route is flexible and may extend into Finland or Sweden depending on weather and cloud conditions
• Northern Lights sightings cannot be guaranteed, and no refund is provided if the Northern Lights are not visible
• The tour usually includes 1–2 toilet stops. In remote areas, facilities may not always be available
• Short walks from the minibus may be required, and surfaces can be snowy, icy or uneven
• No luggage storage is available on the tour
• Alcohol is not permitted. Intoxicated guests may be refused participation without a refund
• The tour operates in most weather conditions. If Arctic Glow cancels due to weather or driving conditions, a full refund will be provided
