Nordre Hestnes Gård

About us

Nordre Hestnes Gård has been run by Bård Andreassen since 2006. The farm is located by Balsfjorden, around an hour’s drive from Tromsø, surrounded by fjords and mountains. The farm is certified organic by Debio.

At the farm, you can experience everyday farm life, meet the animals and learn more about local food production. Our farm restaurant serves homemade dishes based on local and seasonal ingredients, with the menu changing throughout the year according to what is available from the farm and surrounding area.

Activities include horse riding on Icelandic horses, farm visits and fishing. During winter, you can also look for the Northern Lights from the farm, away from the lights of the city.

We have our own pier and offer fishing boats and equipment for hire. Accommodation is also available in a house or apartment on the farm.

Experiences at the farm:

• Farm visits – Meet the animals and take part in feeding and caring for them.

• Horse riding – Join a guided ride on Icelandic horses in the area around the farm.

• Northern Lights experience – Experience the Polar Night and look for the Northern Lights from the farm and surrounding area.

• Fishing – Hire a fishing boat and equipment for a trip on Balsfjorden.

• Farm dining – Enjoy homemade food prepared with local and seasonal ingredients. The restaurant also welcomes groups and private events.
