Urban experiences meets raw Arctic nature
Polar Night Marathon
Polar Night Marathon – Norway’s largest winter race.
General information
Join a race in the blue hour north of the Arctic Circle! During the Polar Night Marathon, also known locally as Mørketidsløpet, you run in the middle of the day in the blue Arctic light that characterises the period before the sun returns.
Tromsø is at its most atmospheric when runners take to the streets in the middle of winter. Along the course, spectators cheer you on, while the city lights up the winter darkness with candles, sparkling lights and a unique Arctic atmosphere. Sometimes, the northern lights add their own magic too.
This is also an ideal time to visit Tromsø if you want to experience the northern lights dancing across the dark sky. For many, the race becomes more than a physical challenge – it becomes a memory for life.
During the Polar Night Marathon, you can choose between four distances: Ishavskraft Marathon, Polar Night Half Marathon, Mørketidsmila (10 km) and Mørketidstrimmen (5 km). Whatever your running experience, the Polar Night Marathon offers an experience out of the ordinary.
