General information

This tour is operated by Polar Adventures.

The nutrient-rich waters near Skjervøy are an important winter feeding area for several whale species. While the guides share information about the marine ecosystem and the wildlife found in the area, you can find a spot on deck and keep watch for whales.

The boat journey from Tromsø to the whale watching area takes approximately 2.5 hours. You will sail past Kvaløya and through Ullsfjorden, with views of the Lyngen Alps, before continuing towards the winter feeding grounds near Kvænangen. Along the way, you can enjoy Arctic fjords, snow-covered mountains, islands and traditional fishing communities. Hot drinks, a packed lunch, snacks and biscuits are served during the tour.

Once the boat reaches the whale watching area, plenty of time is spent looking for orcas, humpback whales, fin whales and other Arctic wildlife. The experienced crew aims to provide a safe, educational and responsible whale watching experience. Whales live freely in the wild, so sightings cannot be guaranteed. The whale watching season is determined by the whales’ natural migration and presence in the area.

You may also spot seabirds, particularly the distinctive white-tailed eagle, which can have a wingspan of more than 2.4 metres.

The vessel, Polar Adventure, can accommodate up to 72 passengers, but each tour is limited to 50 guests to provide a more comfortable and spacious experience. The boat has two heated indoor seating areas, outdoor decks with benches, two toilets and USB charging facilities. Specific seats cannot be reserved, and seating is available on a first-come, first-served basis. Each guest must have their own seat on board.

Please be aware that the boat may move considerably while at sea. If you are prone to seasickness, we recommend taking seasickness medication before departure. Temperatures at sea can feel considerably colder than on land, so make sure to dress warmly.

If the weather or sea conditions are unsuitable, or other changes occur, you will be contacted directly. Please therefore ensure that you are available by telephone and email during the final 24 hours before departure.

Our activities are though in the way that all even the youngest of the family can have a funny time in our activities by boat, get surprised by the animals that we might see and sit with the captain, why not!?!?

We also take care of our Planet as much as we can and encourage our guests to participate actively on our purpose.

We want to reduce how much garbage we generate by not using one use cups, spoons, etc. It is important to sort the garbage, so their usage cycle is not finished.
