for 2 people
This is a private, all-inclusive and personalised Arctic camp experience with Elements Arctic Camp on Rebbenesøya, north of Tromsø. Stay in a cosy yurt, enjoy locally sourced food and experience spectacular Arctic coastal nature through winter kayaking, hiking and, when snow conditions allow, snowshoeing and cross-country skiing.
General information
Get closer to nature with Elements Arctic Camp. Here, you can experience a true back-to-nature feeling, with nature close to both body and mind. Our secluded eco-camp is located on the beautiful island of Rebbenesøya, a scenic two-hour journey from Tromsø.
This is a paradise for sea kayaking and hiking, and when snow conditions allow, you can also enjoy snowshoeing or cross-country skiing.
Our trips are ideal for families, couples and small groups looking for something special and completely different. Your guide and host, Lise, is passionate, energetic and personal, and tailors each trip to your experience level, wishes and the weather conditions. No previous kayaking experience is required.
You will stay in a cosy and comfortable yurt and enjoy locally sourced food. The journey to the camp, including both road and ferry transport, is an adventure in itself.
You will paddle through crystal-clear waters between islands, islets and skerries, surrounded by spectacular Arctic scenery. It is common to encounter white-tailed eagles, otters and seals while kayaking.
You will gain insight into Arctic wildlife, coastal culture and local history. The camp is located near the Nordkvaløya–Rebbenesøya Protected Landscape Area, which is representative of the coastal culture of Troms, as well as several nature reserves.
Alongside its rich biodiversity, the area has a fascinating cultural heritage dating back to the Stone Age. During summer, significant seabird colonies can be found here, alongside diverse wildlife and notable Quaternary geological formations.
The camp has no road access and no mains electricity. We collect water from a nearby stream and use both solar and wind energy. Reuse and recycling are central parts of our philosophy.
This is a place to experience peace, silence, dramatic weather and the unique character of each season, with changing colours, contrasts and atmosphere. With no light pollution, it is an excellent location for stargazing and, when conditions allow, experiencing the magical Northern Lights.
Programme
We will pick you up in Tromsø city centre or at a nearby location by arrangement. Departure is at 13:00 (1:00 PM).
The journey to the camp is an adventure in itself, with a scenic 90-minute drive and a 15-minute ferry crossing to Rebbenesøya. From the ferry landing, there is a 15-minute walk or snowshoe hike to the camp along a gently undulating trail.
After settling into the yurt and warming it up, we prepare and enjoy a meal together. We then plan the coming days according to weather conditions, your kayaking experience and your preferences.
Our aim is to enjoy two kayaking trips during the first two days: one in darkness and one in Arctic daylight.
On the third day, we plan a shorter mountain hike or sightseeing tour around the island before leaving the camp at approximately 15:00 (3:00 PM). We expect to arrive back in Tromsø at around 18:00 (6:00 PM).
The colours and contrasts of the Arctic change dramatically throughout both the day and the winter season. Paddling in Arctic winter light and in darkness are very different experiences, and if we are fortunate, we may witness the magical Northern Lights.
During the kayaking trips, there are excellent opportunities to spot white-tailed eagles, otters, seals and seabirds.
As an alternative to kayaking, or if weather conditions are unsuitable, there are many other activities available. We can go hiking in the surrounding area, take a scenic drive around the island combined with a hike, or visit some of Rebbenesøya’s beautiful beaches.
If there is snow, snowshoeing and cross-country skiing are also possible in the fantastic terrain surrounding the camp. All necessary equipment is provided.
Food is an important part of the experience, and we use high-quality ingredients, sourcing locally whenever possible. Guests and guide prepare and enjoy meals together, unless other arrangements are preferred.
Early and late in the winter season, when daylight hours are longer and temperatures are milder, we often enjoy bonfires and outdoor cooking, either during a kayaking trip or at the camp. If conditions allow, we may also harvest mussels and cook them over the fire – a true local delicacy.
Our yurts, a comfortable form of nomadic tent, are cosy, warm and welcoming once heated. Here you can relax in front of the wood-burning stove and enjoy quality time with your travel companions.
Look forward to restful nights in comfortable beds with high-quality pillows and duvets.
If you wish, it may also be possible to arrange a Sami cultural experience. We cooperate with Sami Johnny, who lives on the island and offers unique and authentic insight into Sami culture.
Please contact us directly if you are travelling as a family or in a group of more than four people.
We also offer private two-day trips. However, we highly recommend this three-day Arctic camp experience, as it allows more time for kayaking and other activities, greater flexibility regarding weather conditions, and more time to enjoy the area and relax with your travel companions.
From 2 January, this tour is replaced by our three-day winter adventure, which combines kayaking with snowshoeing and cross-country skiing, as snow conditions are usually more stable from this point in the season.
We are happy to help you choose the best time to visit.
We look forward to welcoming you to Elements Arctic Camp and sharing a memorable Arctic experience with you.

About Elements Arctic Camp
Elements Arctic Camp is a small, family-run company on Rebbenesøya, north of Tromsø. We offer private and personal culture and nature experiences in an Arctic archipelago, with yurt accommodation, local food, paddling and close access to the coastal nature of Northern Norway.
Our camp is located on beautiful Rebbenesøya, at the outer edge of the coast, in an area shaped by peace, silence, changing weather, Arctic colours and rich wildlife.
We focus on the full experience, from the moment we pick you up, throughout your stay at the camp, the activities and the food, until the tour comes to an end. Our tours are private and personal, and are adapted to age, experience level, personal wishes and weather conditions.
Yurt accommodation
At the camp, you will stay in a cosy and comfortable yurt. Our two yurts can accommodate up to 4 people each and can be described as modern nomadic tents. They have a glass dome in the ceiling, comfortable beds and a rustic yet welcoming atmosphere.
The camp has no road access, electricity or running water. This is part of the experience and gives you the opportunity to get close to nature.
Activities and nature experiences
Paddling is our speciality all year round. You can also experience Arctic wildlife and coastal life, go hiking, visit beautiful beaches, go fishing and enjoy the silence of the archipelago.
In winter, it is also possible to go skiing and snowshoeing, and when conditions are good, you may experience the Northern Lights. In summer, you can enjoy long, bright days and the Midnight Sun.
Sustainability and responsibility
We use nature’s resources as much as possible, including solar energy and wind power. We collect rainwater or fetch water from a nearby stream.
Reuse and recycling are important to us, and we also aim to donate funds to causes that benefit the local community. As a natural part of our tours, we also collect marine litter that we find along the way.
Who are the tours suitable for?
Elements Arctic Camp is for those who want to experience peace, silence, all kinds of weather, the contrasts of Arctic nature, the Northern Lights, the Midnight Sun and tours in an archipelago with unique wildlife.
You do not need any previous experience to join our tours, but you should be in moderate physical condition. Families with children are also welcome.
Please contact us if you are travelling with family or if you are more than 4 people.
