General information

This tour is operated by Tromsø Lapland.

Perfect for visitors seeking a shorter cultural experience, this tour combines reindeer feeding with an engaging introduction to Sami history, customs and everyday life.

The tour departs from Tromsø city centre at 10:15 AM (10:15). Sit back and enjoy a picturesque drive to our camp in Breivikeidet, a stunning valley surrounded by dramatic mountain landscapes, forests and fjords. Along the route, you’ll experience some of the most beautiful scenery Northern Norway has to offer.

Upon arrival, you’ll be welcomed into a traditional Sami lavvu, where one of our knowledgeable Sami hosts will introduce you to their culture and way of life. Hear stories about reindeer herding, traditional clothing, spiritual beliefs, Arctic survival, family life and customs that continue to shape Sami communities today.

After the cultural presentation, it’s time to meet the stars of the tour. Enter the reindeer enclosure and get up close to our herd of up to 100 reindeer as they gather for their morning meal. Feed them by hand or with a bucket, capture unforgettable photographs and enjoy the peaceful surroundings of the Arctic wilderness.

Your guide will accompany you throughout the experience, providing insights and answering any questions along the way.

About Tromsø Lapland

We, the Sámi, are the Indigenous people of Scandinavia and have lived and worked with reindeer for centuries.

We have generations of knowledge and experience with these fascinating and charming creatures, which have helped us survive in the cold and extreme conditions of the north. The reindeer is the true hero of the Arctic.

We would like to invite you to visit our Sámi camp and join us for a genuine, family-friendly reindeer sledding safari with amazing views of the famous Lyngen Alps.

We hope you will learn to cherish and respect these curious, furry creatures just as we do!

Our expert guides will also share the secrets of surviving life in the Arctic and show you traditional artefacts and treasures from our culture.
