Meet and feed reindeer near Tromsø, learn about Sámi culture, enjoy a traditional dinner and look for the Northern Lights.
General information
This tour is operated by Tromsø Lapland.
The experience begins with an approximately 45-minute bus journey from Tromsø city centre through the Northern Norwegian landscape. Upon arrival, a Sámi guide will welcome you and provide a short safety briefing before taking you into the reindeer enclosure.
Here, you will meet and feed the reindeer herd. The reindeer are gentle and curious and will often come right up to eat from your hand. You will have plenty of time to see them up close and take photos.
After visiting the reindeer, you will gather inside the gamme or lavvu, traditional Sámi structures. A traditional Sámi dinner of bidos will be served. Bidos is a warming reindeer stew made with potatoes and carrots. A vegan alternative made with potatoes, swede, carrots, onion and leek is also available.
While you eat, your Sámi guide will share stories about Arctic life, Sámi culture and traditions. You will also see a selection of traditional Sámi artefacts and clothing.
The camp is located away from the brightest city lights. If the weather and aurora activity are favourable, you may also see the Northern Lights during the evening.
