Experience reindeer sledding at Camp Tamok on a winter tour from Tromsø. Meet and feed the reindeer, learn about Sámi culture and enjoy a warm meal in a traditional lavvu.

General information

This tour is operated by Destination Tromsø.

Travel from Tromsø to Camp Tamok in Tamok Valley for a winter experience combining reindeer sledding, Sámi culture and time around the fire.

After approximately 90 minutes by bus, you will be welcomed by your guide and provided with a thermal suit, boots and mittens. A short minibus transfer then takes you to the reindeer herd, where you will set off on a gentle sledding tour through the snowy landscape.

During the experience, your guide will share stories about Sámi traditions and the close relationship between Sámi people and reindeer. You will also have the opportunity to feed the animals.

Back at the camp, gather inside a traditional lavvu and enjoy a warm meal and hot drinks by the fire before travelling back to Tromsø.

Please bring: Warm winter clothing, preferably in several layers, and a scarf or buff.

Departure time and meeting point: 9:30 AM (09:30) from Tromsø Havn Prostneset, inside the main entrance hall, Samuel Arnesens gate 5, 9008 Tromsø.

Duration: Approximately 6.5 hours.

Important information:

• The reindeer herd consists of 5–6 reindeer
• The activity is not suitable for wheelchair users
• Pets are not allowed
• Please provide details of any food allergies or dietary requirements when booking. If these are not provided in advance, an additional fee of NOK 150 will apply
• The activity takes place outdoors in Arctic winter conditions. Please be prepared for cold and changing weather
• The tour may be cancelled or rescheduled if weather or surface conditions make it unsafe for guests or animals. In this case, you will be offered another date or location, a similar alternative product or a full refund
• The tour may also be cancelled or rescheduled if there are fewer than two participants
• Staff may refuse participation if a guest’s condition or behaviour presents a safety risk, including intoxication or unsafe behaviour.
