Reindeer Sledding, Feeding and Northern Lights

General information

This tour is operated by Tromsø Lapland.

The camp is located approximately 50 minutes from Tromsø city centre, in a valley surrounded by mountains and Arctic winter scenery, away from the city's light pollution.

Upon arrival, Sámi guides will take you on an approximately 20-minute reindeer sled ride through the winter darkness, with the sleds travelling one behind another. On clear evenings, you can enjoy the starry night sky and, with a little luck, see the Northern Lights dancing overhead.

After the sled ride, you will have the opportunity to meet the reindeer up close, feed them and take photos in the beautiful surroundings.

A traditional Sámi dinner of bidos, a warming reindeer stew with potatoes and carrots, will then be served. A vegan alternative is also available, consisting of a Norwegian-style vegetable soup with potatoes, swede, carrots, onions, leeks, spices and stock. The soup is gluten-free.

After dinner, a Sámi guide will share stories about Sámi culture, history and traditions. Through the guide's stories, you will gain an insight into Sámi culture and everyday life. There will also be plenty of opportunities to ask questions.

Meeting time and place: Please meet at 5:45 PM (17:45) in front of the main entrance to Radisson Blu Hotel, Sjøgata 7, Tromsø. Look for a guide wearing a blue luhkka, a traditional Sámi cloak.

Departure time: 6:00 PM (18:00)

Duration: Approximately 4.5 hours. Return to Radisson Blu Hotel by 10:30 PM (22:30).

Important information:

• The Northern Lights are a natural phenomenon, and sightings cannot be guaranteed.

• The reindeer sled ride depends on suitable snow conditions, and its duration may be adjusted. If weather conditions prevent the sled ride from taking place, you will receive a partial refund. The rest of the tour will go ahead as planned.

• The maximum permitted weight is 120 kg per person. Each sled can accommodate a maximum of two adults.

• Temperatures in the area can drop to as low as -30°C. Please dress warmly and according to the weather conditions.

• You can also make your own way to the camp. The address is Sjursnesvegen 144, 9027 Ramfjordbotn.

• Winter driving conditions in Norway can be challenging. If you are not experienced in driving on snowy and icy roads, we recommend using the included bus transport.
