Reindeer Sledding, Feeding and Sámi Culture - Afternoon

General information

This tour is operated by Tromsø Lapland.

The camp is located approximately 50 minutes from Tromsø city centre, in a valley surrounded by snow-covered mountains with views of the Lyngen Alps.

Upon arrival, your Sámi guides will take you on an approximately 20-minute reindeer sled ride, with the sleds travelling in a line. Afterwards, you will have the opportunity to meet and feed the reindeer herd and take photos in the peaceful surroundings.

A traditional Sámi lunch of bidos, a reindeer stew, will be served. A Norwegian-style vegetable soup containing potatoes, swede, carrots, onions and leeks is available as a vegan and gluten-free alternative. Bread, margarine, biscuits, hot chocolate, coffee and tea are also included.

After lunch, you will gather inside a lavvu, a traditional Sámi tent. Here, a Sámi guide will share stories about Sámi culture, traditions and everyday life with reindeer. There will also be an opportunity to ask questions.

Accessibility for guests with reduced mobility:

The camp has uneven terrain, which may be challenging for wheelchair users and guests with reduced mobility. Guests with disabilities are encouraged to contact Tromsø Lapland directly for further information about accessibility, available facilities and transport arrangements.

Meeting time and place: Please meet at 12:45 PM in front of Radisson Blu Hotel, Sjøgata 7, Tromsø. Look for a guide wearing a blue luhkka, a traditional Sámi poncho.

Departure time: 1:00 PM (13:00)

Duration: Approximately 4.5 hours. Expected return to Radisson Blu Hotel is around 5:30 PM (17:30).

Alternative arrival: You can also make your own way to the camp. The address is Sjursnesvegen 144, 9027 Ramfjordbotn. Please arrive no later than 2:00 PM (14:00) to ensure you can participate in all the activities included in the tour.

Winter driving conditions in Northern Norway can be challenging. If you are not experienced in driving on snowy and icy roads, Tromsø Lapland recommends using the included bus transport.

Important information:

• The sled ride is dependent on suitable snow conditions, and its duration may therefore be adjusted. If the sled ride cannot take place, you will receive a partial refund. The rest of the tour will go ahead as planned.

• The maximum weight limit for the sled ride is 120 kg per person. Each sled can accommodate a maximum of two adults.

• This tour follows the same programme as the 10:00 AM departure.
