Wooden walkway at Tungeneset on Senja, with the sea and Okshornan mountains in the background

Scenic route Senja

National Scenic Route Senja offers 102 km of dramatic mountains, fjords, fishing villages, beaches and several scenic viewpoints along the way.

About us

National Scenic Route Senja runs along the outer coast of Senja, between Botnhamn in the north and Gryllefjord in the south. The 102 km route follows fjords, mountains and small coastal communities, with short detours to places such as Husøy and Mefjordvær.

Along the route, you will find several designated rest areas and viewpoints. At Bergsbotn, a 44-metre-long viewing platform offers panoramic views of Bergsfjorden and the surrounding mountains.

At Tungeneset, a wooden walkway leads across the rocks towards the sea. From here, you can enjoy views of the coastline and the distinctive Okshornan mountain range.

Ersfjordstranda is a white sandy beach surrounded by steep mountains and a popular stop along National Scenic Route Senja. It is a great place to take a break and experience the contrast between the bright beach, the sea and the dramatic mountain landscape.

It is also worth taking a few short detours from the main route. The fishing villages of Husøy and Mefjordvær offer the opportunity to experience more of Senja’s coastal scenery and small local communities.
