Join a small-group dog sledding tour on Kvaløya with an experienced musher, husky time, warm clothing, snacks and transport from Tromsø.

General information

This tour is operated by Kvaløya Adventure.

After an approximately 45-minute drive from Tromsø city centre, you will arrive at the kennel in Straumsbukta on Kvaløya. Along the way, you can enjoy views of fjords and mountains.

Upon arrival, you will meet the huskies and be provided with a thermal suit and winter boots. From the kennel, you will head to the starting point of the dog sledding experience.

An experienced musher drives the dog team through forests and open landscapes while you sit back as a passenger and enjoy the scenery and surroundings. Two guests share each sled, and the dog sledding itself lasts approximately 30 minutes, depending on conditions.

To keep the groups small and the experience personal, the group is divided into two. While one group is out dog sledding, the other can relax in the lavvu with hot drinks, snacks and stories from the musher. The groups then switch.

After the dog sledding, there is more time with the huskies before returning to Tromsø city centre.

About Kvaløya Adventure

Tommy Theodorsen owns and operates Kvaløya Adventure from his home in the scenic village of Straumsbukta, with a focus on small groups and personal experiences.

Over many years, Tommy has gained extensive experience living, training and competing with dogs. This has helped him build a kennel of around 50 Alaskan huskies who love to run, eat and cuddle.

Our dogs are part of the family, and we spend a lot of time giving them the care and love they deserve. Our huskies range in age from puppies to senior dogs. Everyone who works with us knows each individual dog, their personality and their unique sounds — from our lead dog Fenris to the youngest members of the pack.

Kvaløya Adventure is located in Straumsbukta, approximately a 45-minute drive from Tromsø city centre. This is where Tommy grew up, and he knows every mountain, trail and tree in the area.

At our kennel, we welcome people from all over the world. Here, you can learn about the life of sled dogs and join us on a sled ride with one of our experienced mushers. During the winter, we use our own custom-built sleds, with space for two guests and one musher.

When there is not enough snow, we use wheeled carts instead. This means you can also visit us in autumn and spring, as long as weather conditions allow.

Take a break from the city and experience the beautiful Arctic nature with us. We are happy to share stories from life with our dogs in Northern Norway.

Our activities are perfect for anyone who wants to experience nature, learn about caring for sled dogs, or share a new adventure with family and friends.

We are living our dream of working alongside our best friends — our dogs.
