We will take you on a snowshoe walk in the valleys of the Lyngen Alps or along the coastline, with beautiful views of the open sea.

General information

This tour is operated by XLyngen.

Enjoy a fantastic guided tour along the fjord towards the beginning of the Lyngen Alps, at the northernmost point where they meet the sea. We will walk on snowshoes through an exposed landscape that is rich in culture and history. Along the way, your guide will take you on a journey through local history, coastal life and the people who have lived here.

Depending on the conditions, we will walk along the fjord towards Lyngstuva or into the Lyngen Alps.

On this snowshoe hike in the northernmost part of the Lyngen Alps, you can experience real Arctic nature and wildlife. If you are lucky, you may see eagles, foxes, hares, sea otters, grouse or moose. Even if you do not see the animals, you may spot their tracks in the snow.

You can also enjoy the ever-changing winter light and Arctic weather conditions. Midway through the hike, we stop to enjoy a packed lunch and a warm drink outdoors. Your guide will share stories about the local culture and village life, giving you a glimpse of how people live at the top of the world.

Good to know:

• The minimum age to participate in this tour is 7 years.

• Pick-up at Svensby ferry pier at 10:20 AM (10:20) is possible. Please let us know in advance.

• It is possible to add a floating sauna experience by the sea and a later return to Tromsø on request and at an additional cost. The meeting time is the same, but you will be back in Tromsø at approximately 6:30 PM (18:30). For this option, please contact us directly.

Included: Guide, local transport, packed lunch and warm drink, snowshoes and poles, thermal suit and shoes if needed
Please bring: Warm clothing. We recommend wearing wool as your base layer

Duration:

With meeting point at XLyngen: Approximately 3.5 hours, from 10 AM (10:00) to 1:30 PM (13:30). The snowshoe hike lasts approximately 2.5 hours.

With transport from Tromsø: Approximately 7.5 hours. Departure from Tromsø at 8:45 AM (08:45) and return to Tromsø city centre at approximately 4 PM (16:00).

If you have chosen transport to and from Tromsø:
Departure at 8:45 AM (08:45) from Prostneset bus terminal, Samuel Arnesens gate 5, Tromsø, with Arctic Route. Look for the Lyngen bus (917).

If you have chosen to meet at XLyngen:
Meeting time at 10 AM (10:00) at XLyngen, Lenangsveien 2344, 9068 Nord-Lenangen.
