Parking in Tromsø

Parking in Tromsø city centre includes on-street parking, outdoor car parks and indoor parking facilities. 

The entire city centre is a no-parking zone unless signs indicate that parking is permitted. Parking times, prices and maximum stays vary, so always check the signs where you park.

On-street parking

Paid parking hours in the city centre are generally:

Monday–Friday: 8 AM–8 PM (08:00–20:00)
Saturday: 8 AM–6 PM (08:00–18:00)

Some spaces may have different payment times or restrictions, so always check the sign beside your parking space. The maximum stay for on-street parking is usually one or two hours and is displayed on the additional sign below the main parking sign.

The Norwegian text “Maks 2 timer mot avgift” means that paid parking is limited to a maximum of two hours.

Outdoor car parks

Outdoor car parks are generally marked with a black P on a white background. These car parks may have different prices, payment times and conditions from on-street parking.

Park entirely within the marked bay and read the information displayed at the car park before leaving your vehicle.

Paying for parking

You can pay at a parking meter or through the EasyPark app. All parking meters operated by Tromsø Parkering accept coins, and most also accept payment by card.

When paying through the app, make sure you have entered the correct vehicle registration number and parking zone. You do not need to display a paper ticket when paying through the app. If you receive a paper ticket from a parking meter, place it where it can be clearly seen through the windscreen.

A faulty parking meter does not automatically give you permission to park free of charge. Follow the instructions displayed on the meter if it is not working.

Parking for longer stays

For longer stays, Tromsø Parkering recommends using Fjellet or Seminaret car park rather than on-street parking.

Fjellet car park

Fjellet is an underground car park beneath Tromsø city centre with space for approximately 900 vehicles. It has several entrances and pedestrian exits in the city centre.

Take a ticket when entering and pay at one of the payment machines before returning to your vehicle. Card payment is also available at the exit, although this may cause delays when it is busy.

The maximum vehicle height is 2.20 metres. Motorcycles are not permitted in Fjellet car park. Parking for more than 14 days must be arranged with Tromsø Parkering in advance.

Seminaret car park

Seminaret is located close to Tromsø Bridge. Public paid parking is available on the upper level, while the lower level is reserved for permit holders.

Payment is required throughout the day and night, every day. You can pay at the parking meter or through the EasyPark app. The maximum vehicle height is 2 metres. Parking for more than 14 days must be arranged in advance.

Camper vans and motorhomes

There are no dedicated motorhome parking areas in Tromsø city centre. Motorhomes may use ordinary paid parking spaces as long as the vehicle fits entirely within the marked bay and does not breach any other parking restrictions.

Tromsø Lodge & Camping offers dedicated spaces for camper vans and motorhomes, as well as facilities for emptying chemical toilets.

Motorcycles and mopeds

Motorcycles and mopeds must follow the same parking rules as cars when using ordinary paid parking spaces. Payment is required unless the signs state otherwise.

Dedicated motorcycle spaces are available in Tromsø during the summer season. Four-wheeled motorcycles may not use spaces reserved for motorcycles, and motorcycles are not permitted in Fjellet car park.

Electric vehicles

Electric vehicles generally pay the same parking fees as other vehicles. Any exemption from payment must be stated on the signs at the parking location.

Electric vehicles may not use parking spaces reserved for motorcycles.

Accessible parking

Parking spaces reserved for people with disabilities are reserved throughout the day and night. A valid accessible parking permit is required.

Payment requirements may vary between different parking areas, particularly in car parks located away from public streets. Always check the information displayed at the parking location.

Tourist buses

Paid overnight parking for tourist buses is available at Nansenplassen and at HT-plassen, south of Polaria. Tourist buses pay the ordinary parking fee for one vehicle.

Parking fines and towing

You may receive a fine or control sanction if you:

• Do not pay the required parking fee
• Exceed the paid or maximum parking time
• Park outside a marked bay
• Park without the required permit
• Use a space reserved for people with disabilities without a valid permit

Vehicles parked illegally or causing an obstruction may also be towed at the owner’s expense.
