Whale watching aboard MS Gabriele

MS Gabriele departs from Tromsø in the morning for a guided whale-watching tour in search of humpback whales and orcas.

The cruise takes you through the surrounding fjords to areas where the whales gather in search of herring. You can watch for whales through the panoramic windows of the spacious and comfortable indoor lounge before stepping out into the crisp Arctic air for a closer view from the outdoor decks.

MS Gabriele is warm and cosy, allowing you to relax indoors and enjoy the journey between visits to the outdoor viewing areas.

Wildlife and scenery along the way

Humpback whales can grow up to 16 metres long and are known for their spectacular breaches, when they launch themselves out of the water. Black-and-white orcas often travel in groups in search of herring. With some luck, you may also see porpoises and a variety of Arctic seabirds.

Animal welfare is taken seriously, and the vessel operates with great respect and caution around the whales. Cruise Service follows Visit Tromsø-Region’s guidelines for whale watching in Tromsø.

Tromsø is located north of the Arctic Circle. Although the Polar Night lasts from 27 November to 15 January, there are still several hours of blue twilight around midday. The journey through the fjord landscape surrounding Tromsø is an experience in itself.

The duration of the tour depends on where the whales are located and may therefore vary. There is no disembarkation during the tour.

Whale-watching guarantee

Whale sightings cannot be guaranteed. However, the tour is operated by experienced skippers who will do everything they can to help you see the whales.

If you do not see humpback whales or orcas during the tour, you will have the opportunity to join the next available whale-watching tour free of charge.
