Join a guided winter sea kayaking tour at Sommarøy, including return transport from Tromsø. Explore sheltered bays, white sandy beaches and small islands while looking out for Arctic wildlife.

General information

This tour is operated by Sommarøy Adventure.

Sommarøy is one of Northern Norway’s most beautiful island areas and a popular kayaking destination among locals. After picking you up in Tromsø, we will drive to Sommarøy, where your guide will provide all the necessary equipment and give you a safety briefing before you take to the water.

Together, you will paddle through quiet bays, past snow-covered beaches and around small islands that can only be reached by kayak or boat. Along the way, you may spot sea eagles and other local wildlife. There will be plenty of time to enjoy the peaceful winter scenery, including a stop for a well-earned break. Your local guide will also share stories about Sommarøy’s fishing history, wildlife and everyday life.

If you would like to improve your paddling skills, simply ask your guide. Stable double kayaks are normally used, but experienced paddlers may request a single kayak. Kayak allocation will be decided on site.

After paddling approximately 5 km, you will return to shore, hand back the equipment and travel back to Tromsø city centre.

About Sommarøy Adventure

Sommarøy Adventure is a tour company that offers coastal adventures, including sea kayaking, boat tours and sea-to-summit excursions on foot, skis or snowshoes.

We run tours all year round, with a focus on sea kayaking in both the midnight sun and the polar night. Depending on the season, we offer hiking trips and wildlife safaris, as well as northern lights tours, snowshoe hikes and ski touring.

During the summer season, our primary base is located in Sommarøy, a sea kayaking paradise approximately one hour from Tromsø and a popular destination for kayaking and nature enthusiasts.

In winter, we operate from our outdoor base camp in Eidkjosen and offer convenient bus transfers from Tromsø city centre, which takes only about 15 minutes.

We are proud to have local guides with extensive knowledge of the region and the skills needed for guiding in the Arctic.
